Radha Raman Temple

The Sri Radha Raman Mandir is a special place for those who follow Gaudiya Vaishnavism. This Hindu shrine is all about devotion to Lord Krishna, known here as Radha Ramana, which translates to the Sweetheart of Srimati Radha. It is one of the seven temples under the care of Thakur of Vrindavan. Despite being only twelve inches tall, Lord Radharaman captivates everyone with His beauty. The unique aspect is that there is no Deity of Radharani, but a representation of Shri Radha is placed with great reverence on the left of Radharaman.

Also, the temple houses other Shalagram Shilas previously worshipped by Shri Gopala Bhatta in a Samadhi temple located behind the main one. An interesting piece of history is the eternal flame burning in the kitchen since its construction. Inside, there is a Saligram stone statue, and what is fascinating is that the smile on its face is said to have appeared on its own. The nearby river creates a picturesque setting. Within the complex, you will also find the resting place of Gopala Bhatta Goswami, and a special piece is unag vastra of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, carefully preserved for all to see.

From the outside, Radharaman might appear like just another household shrine, tucked away in the Radharaman Ghera compound. You enter through a massive doorway with hefty wooden doors, securely closed after nightfall. The courtyard within is bordered by the homes of the Goswamis. If you choose to walk straight through the courtyard without turning into the passageway with the memorial shrine, you will reach another massive doorway with heavy wooden doors. Beyond it lies another courtyard, lined with more houses. Here, you will finally face Radharaman temple itself, a modest sandstone structure that blends in with the surrounding houses.

Crafting such a figure was deemed impossible for a human.

Here is another twist – there is a fire pit in the Radha Raman temple that is been burning for more than 500 years. What is even more fascinating? The fire was not ignited by any match but by a saint with miraculous mantras. Despite numerous research attempts, scientists could not crack the mysteries. State-of-the-art machines were no match for the enigma within. Eventually, they threw in the towel, packed up, and never looked back. The Radha Raman temple remains a puzzle that science failed to unravel.

History of Radha Raman Temple

Over 500 years ago, Gopala Bhatta Gosvami, the founder of Sri Radha Raman temple, arrived in Vrindavan at the age of 30. Distanced from Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Gopala Bhatta Gosvami dreamt of the Lord, who directed him to Nepal for blessings. In Kali-Gandaki River, after a bath, Shaligrama Shilas mysteriously filled his water pot, numbering twelve. Legend has it that a donor offered clothes and jewellery for the Shaligramas, but as they did not fit, Gopala Bhatta suggested donating elsewhere, yet the donor insisted.

During a Purnima ceremony, Gopala Bhatta laid the Shilas to rest by covering them with a basket. After a short nap, he discovered a Krishna Deity among them, fulfilling his desire. The tri-bhangananda Krishna had transformed into the "Damodara Shila." Radha Raman, born from this holy shaligram shila, emphasises the divine-human relationship of love as the essence of ultimate reality.

Devotees believe Radha Raman is alive and choose a family to aid in his daily routine. Male members of the Goswami households prepare Prasad in the temple kitchen. Seva is scheduled through a family calendar, and significant gatherings and rituals are hosted, inviting disciples to participate.
