ISKCON Temple

ISKCON Temple is one of the famous temple chains in India and located in several cities as Delhi, Vrindavan, Chennai etc. The Sri Krishna Balaram Mandir, nestled in the Raman Reti area, holds a profound significance for the devotees of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). This magnificent temple is the realized dream of Srila Prabhupada, the founder-Acharya of ISKCON. Srila Prabhupada envisioned a temple of unmatched beauty to worship the divine siblings, Krishna, and Balaram, in the very village where they played over five thousand years ago.

Personally, overseeing the design and construction, Srila Prabhupada invited the Lord to come and accept the worship of His devotees from across the globe. He expressed, "Lord Balaram is the source of spiritual strength, and I have built this temple just to give strength to the devotees." Today, the Sri Sri Krishna Balaram Mandir is a thriving spiritual centre. Pilgrims from around the world flood through its gates every day of the week. Interestingly, the large green government signs along the highway leading to Vrindavan guide visitors to only two temples: Banke Bihari and ISKCON. You can take part in entire day activities performed at Temple complex. Various aartis are performed including Samadhi Aarti, Tulsi aarti, Sandhaya Aarti, Pushpa aarti and Shayan Aarti.

Main Attractions of ISKCON Temple

As visitors approach the temple, they first pass beneath the brilliant white marble archway, the samadhi of Srila Prabhupada. An architectural marvel, it features winding peacock stairways and intricately carved walls and domes. Stepping through the massive wooden temple doors, a soul-soothing experience unlike any other awaits. Inside, they encounter the palace of Krishna Balaram, set against a caved-in black and white checkered marble courtyard adorned with a flourishing tamal tree. The enchanting music of kartals, mridanga, and harmonium played by the 24-hour kirtaniyas fills the air. Captivated by the divine atmosphere, young and old alike raise their arms, dancing in bliss. Climbing the courtyard steps, visitors approach the magnificent forms of the presiding Lords – Sri Sri Gaura Nitai, Krishna Balaram, and Radha Shyamasundar.

With open eyes and folded hands, pilgrims try to absorb the dazzling vision of the Lords, adorned with love and care. The entire temple complex serves as a lively guiding hub, housing thirty departments, including a guesthouse, welcome centre, Samadhi museum, ten book stalls, bakery, restaurant, broadcast studio, residential Brahmacari ashram, and a Deity department maintaining one of the highest standards of worship globally. Over a hundred devotees are directly engaged in the seva every day.

History of ISKCON Temple

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), popular as the Hare Krishna movement, is a world-renowned organization devoted to practising and spreading the teachings of Lord Krishna. Its inception in 1966 by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada marked the beginning of one of the largest and most prominent Hindu movements worldwide. Affectionately called "Swami Ji," A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, a spiritual leader from India, envisioned bringing the teachings of Lord Krishna to the West.

Arriving in New York in 1965 with a mere $7 and a profound desire to share the message of love and devotion to Lord Krishna, his teachings gained a following. In 1966, Swami Ji established the first ISKCON temple in New York City. Under his guidance, ISKCON rapidly expanded. Presently, ISKCON boasts over 600 temples and centres across more than 60 countries.
